"Individual transition pathway preparation for neurodivergent child entering school in Scotland"

About our early years pathways

A supported journey that begins right in your home, where your child feels most secure. That’s where most of our individual interventions take place. We empower you—the parent or caregiver—to be the expert in your child’s growth.

At the heart of this journey is your key lead: They’ll begin by really getting to know your child through a detailed assessment. Then, they’ll craft a personalised programme, made just for your child’s strengths and needs. They’ll facilitate and walk alongside you as you begin using the plan.

Your child’s first session is also our first team meeting. Together, we’ll decide what to work on, whether it’s communication, play, or daily routines.

With those goals in mind, your lead will create a thoughtful, whole-child plan. We’ll support you hands-on, showing you what to do, working with you side by side. Soon, you’ll confidently run the programme yourself. But you’re never alone, we return regularly to make sure things are on track and give extra help whenever it’s needed.

We provide both intensive short-term programs targeting specific skills and comprehensive long-term support addressing multiple developmental areas, all customised for each child.

What might this look like?

A fictional example (intensive) based on real interventions:

A Structured Start: How Pebble Pathways Helped the Miller Family

The Millers reached out to Pebble Pathways during a difficult chapter. Their 4-year-old daughter, Elsie, had grown increasingly distressed each morning when leaving for nursery. What should have been a short walk to the car had become a daily meltdown.

Step One: Understanding the Child and the Family
Our first 2.5-hour visit was all about connection. The key lead spent time observing, listening, and gently gathering information. We worked together to set a realistic and meaningful goal: reduce Elsie’s anxiety during the morning transition.

Step Two: Implementing a Tailored Intervention - second 2.5-hour visit

  • Communication Tools
Our practitioner introduced objects of reference—specific, familiar items that signified the next step in the routine. Alongside this, a carefully worded verbal script was introduced, helping all caregivers maintain a consistent, calming communication style.

  • Sensory Regulation
A big part of Elsie’s distress stemmed from sudden temperature changes. To help her body process this shift, our lead designed a set of six interoception activities, allowing her to explore the concept of hot and cold in a safe, structured way.

  • Visual and Predictable Routines
We introduced a visual timer app to break the morning into manageable steps. Together, we practised a new routine: grab bag, put on jacket, step into shoes. The new rhythm gave Elsie control—and gave the Millers relief.

Follow-Up Support
Two additional 2.5-hour visits helped refine the strategies and monitor progress. Our team offered between-visit support, responding to any changes or challenges.

Outcome:
Elsie’s morning anxiety significantly decreased, and her parents felt reconnected to their parenting tools. With a clearer routine and the right support, mornings became a time for bonding, not battling.
